Stay Healthy this Winter!

Winter is most definitely upon us and it can be a tricky time of the year, (especially this year) with all of the nasties that can easily be spread around. The dry cool weather also plays havoc with our skin and the lack of light until that little bit later, makes it difficult to get motivated to exercise when it's dark and cold. However, there are a few things that you can try that might help to make the cooler months a little easier to handle.

Hand Hygiene
Never underestimate the benefits of washing hands. Germs are everywhere and are very easy to pick up and transfer, in fact hand contact is one of the easiest way to spread germs. So washing hands regularly can help keep germs at bay, which means, the possibilities of less colds. Be sure to carry around a small natural hand sanitiser which can be really valuable in times that soap and water are not handy.

Healthy Eating
Choosing healthy food options and including the usual suspects in your diet, like fruit, veggies, lean meat, lamb and chicken or if you are a vegetarian plenty of pulses, like chickpeas, broad beans, lentils as well as tofu, is the best way to support your immune system. Drinking plenty of water is also helpful and if drinking water gets a little ho hum, add a dash of lemon or lime to give it a little zing.

Sleep
I know this is sometimes much easier said than done, but it really does have a significant impact on your general well-being including your heart, weight, memory, disposition and so much more. While sleep requirements vary slightly from person to person, most healthy adults need between 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night to function at their best.* The quality of sleep is important too, broken sleep is not ideal, a sound sleep is best. If you find you are struggling with a sound sleep, you might need to look at incorporating Magnesium into your daily routine. Soaking in a bath of Magnesium may help you achieve the sound sleep you are needing. Even rubbing some Magnesium Gel onto your body can be encouragement enough to send you off to a restful and rejuvenating sleep.

Minerals
Vitamin C always comes to mind when thinking of winter and boosting immunity. However, MSM can also assist in the maintenance or improvement of general wellbeing.

Skincare
While not really life threatening, the reality is no-one likes dull, dry and tired looking skin. Keeping your skin hydrated and nourished will keep it looking its best and you feeling great. During the winter months it's all about layering rich serums and moisturisers and making sure you exfoliate and apply masks weekly.
