Treat Acne Naturally

Pimples and acne are difficult to contend with on a daily basis. Not only just from a product standpoint but in severe cases, self-confidence among other things can also be affected. When dealing with these skin issues there are a couple of ways to go about it and in most cases just like our belief when dealing with pain, the best way is to tackle it both internally and topically. In regards to internally, there are certain supplements that you can consider to help strengthen the immune system and can assist with a healthy and smooth complexion. These include Vitamin C, Zinc, and Essential Fatty Acid supplements. There has also been very strong research that demonstrates the connection between good gut health and skin health. For example, A study from 2010 showed clinical improvement of acne symptoms over a twelve-week period when the patients consumed Lactobacillus-fermented milk.

* There is a great deal more of this type of research to indicate that a regular dose of a good quality probiotic can help to improve acne. In addition, you can also get your daily dose of probiotics from certain food sources too like Kimchi and pickled/fermented food e.g sauerkraut, so it is worth exploring these options further if you're interested.

So let's get to using products topically on your face. It's important to use products that won't strip your natural oils, as this will only make things worse and not better. Lack of moisture is often found in problem skin so it's essential you use products that help to keep skin hydrated also. Keeping bacteria at bay and reducing inflammation are also very necessary in these particular skin conditions.
MISMO has some very targeted and effective products to help combat and control acne naturally. Active Face Cleanser, Blemish Gel , Ultra Moisturing SPF Sunscreen and Boost Oil Free Moisturiser are all part of MISMO's anti-acne range. Each serves a unique purpose in helping to get pimples and acne under control. Daily Face Wash includes Glycolic and Salycilic Acids also known as AHA's/BHA's that work together to effectively clear pimples and skin blockages as well as exfoliating dead skin cells. Glycolic Acid is an AHA or Alpha Hydroxy Acid while Salicylic Acid is a BHA or Beta Hydroxy Acid. Specifically, the job of both acids are to loosen the glue that holds dead skin cells on the skin. Loosening and dissolving the skin cells is exactly what you want went dealing with pimples as it also helps to clear oil that has clogged pores which inevitably leads to blemishes. Blemish Gel is an innovative and unique natural acne treatment. This product includes Vitamins A, B3 and 5 all of which are well known for their effectiveness when it comes to acne. In addition to this, Blemish Gel also includes an ingredient called ac.net. This fantastic botanically derived ingredient has proven anti-acne benefits that include controlling excess oil, inflammation, and most importantly bacteria. You can use this as a moisturiser all over the face or just on the affected areas. Boost Oil Free Moisturiser is as the name suggests an oil-free moisturiser. It is super light, however, still offers effective hydration to the skin and will also work to soothe and calm any irritations. Ultra Moisturising SPF Sunscreen works well if your skin is in the normal range, not oily. This light cream will provide hydration as well as sun protection and the zinc is also calming and healing for pimples. A suggested MISMO skincare routine to help combat pimples could look like this :
  1. Cleanse with Daily Face Wash Morning and Night
  2. Use Blemish Gel on pimples or can also be used as a moisturiser use morning and night
  3. Boost Oil-free Moisturiser if you're wanting to use a moisturiser then apply Boost morning and night also
  4. Alternative to Boost - Ultra Moisturising SPF Sunscreen - use after Blemish Gel
  5. Exfoliating regularly can also help

Although if you're wanting a routine tailored uniquely for yourself then please contact MISMO to speak with one of our resident beauty therapists. They are always on hand to help with any product recommendations and can help you to make informed choices about what products will work best for you.

THE BEAUTY & HEALING MINERAL

MSM is known to be highly effective in joint health, muscle recovery, sports nutrition, immune support, and healthy ageing.

What is MSM?

MSM (Methyl Sulphonyl Methane or Dimethyl Sulfone) is a natural form of organic sulphur compound that is found in all living organisms. It is the purest and most bio-available form of sulphur, one of the essential minerals crucial to life and the regeneration of cells. MSM has traditionally been taken as a food supplement to increase joint health for peak flexibility and mobility, as well as for strong hair and nails, beautiful skin, and numerous other health conditions from leaky gut syndrome and ME to damaged joints, arthritis, osteoporosis, and psoriasis. MISMO is the first premium skincare range to harness MSM’s highly beneficial properties.

Why is it called Organic Sulphur?

Sulphur is the fourth most plentiful mineral in the human body and is known both as the ‘beauty mineral’ and the ‘healing mineral’ for its ability to support collagen production, promote circulation and decrease inflammation. Although not widely known, sulphur preparations have been used since the time of Hippocrates - the father of modern medicine - to beautify the skin and treat a variety of skin conditions.

Sulphur is structurally and functionally important to 150 bodily compounds and performs a number of important functions within the body. It is integral to the production of collagen and elastin. Approximately half of the body's sulphur content is found in the skin, muscles, cartilage, and bones.

How does MSM work at the cellular level?

Collagen is the principal structural protein holding the skin together, with the fibrils of types I and III forming the mesh which is largely responsible for the skin’s mechanical properties. Since the production of collagen types, I and III in the skin tends to decline from about the age of 35 onwards.

How can MSM help improve skin condition?

  • Protecting collagen against collagen degrading enzymes.
  • Clinically proven to reduce fine lines & wrinkles by boosting collagen and elastin production.
  • Boosts the natural production of Glutathione, the body's key cellular anti-oxidant, to boost the immune system and reduce pigmentation and cellular damage.
  • Acting as an anti-inflammatory agent by reducing the production of cytokines (pro-inflammation).
  • Providing the body with the raw materials needed to create new cells, and to repair damaged ones.
  • Maintaining skin cell membrane flexibility and permeability, promoting an efficient exchange of nutrients and waste products, to help keep skin clear.
  • MSM also helps in maintaining the body's crucial pH balance.
  • MSM is needed to detoxify the body. Amino acid chains are usually linked with each other through flexible sulphur bridges.

How can MSM help with joint support?

As we age, joint pain becomes more and more frequent. MSM allows for a quicker recovery by reducing inflammatory responses and swelling that arise from joint pain and fatigue. Physical and active movements are important to our overall health, however, joints and cartilage deteriorate after time.

The ageing of joints has been shown to slow down as MSM supports active lifestyles and improves the quality of life. Taking organic sulphur is critical in maintaining healthy joints and cartilage, as MSM assimilates into the body to support optimal nutrition.

Arthritis is a common inflammatory condition that causes pain, stiffness and a reduced range of motion in your joints. Since MSM has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, it’s often used as a natural alternative to medications to improve arthritis-related symptoms.

How can MSM help with healthy ageing?

Organic sulphur continues to gain more support as a critical dietary nutrient to assist with healthy aging. With its regulation of glutathione and other mechanisms in the body, MSM can help support healthy skin, joint mobility, cartilage, and the inflammatory response. A breakdown of joint health and mobility often comes from ageing. Organic sulphur is a critical nutrient helping to protect joints, tendons, and connective tissue.

How does MSM help with exercise recovery?

MSM powder is an important nutritional supplement for anyone living an active lifestyle, as it delivers optimal amounts of sulphur and methyl nutrients which are key to the structure of healthy cells in muscle and connective tissue.

MSM is valued by bodybuilders, strength, and power athletes because it supports healthy and flexible cell structure and can reduce the inflammation of muscle tissue and joints, In this way, MSM helps new muscle development supports athletic recovery, and can help offset muscle soreness, joint pain and inflammation. MSM can also help reduce the build-up of lactic acid in muscle tissue and can speed the elimination of toxins from the liver. MSM is very useful for recovering more quickly between training sessions and it's a great supplement for joint pain.

Sulphur is a basic organic component of protein, and important to building new muscle tissue and protecting existing lean mass. Our muscles, skin, bones, organs, and connective tissue all rely on sulphur and without it, our bodies can not function properly. Sulphur is crucial for the uptake, absorption and generation of vitamins and minerals, enzymes and antibodies, and even our wellbeing and mood molecules endocrine system.

Natural MSM is largely destroyed when our food is processed and can be lost entirely when foods and ingredients are stored for a long period of time. MSM bonds with moisture, so any food which undergoes any sort of dehydration will lack its natural MSM. For these reasons, and because MSM is so critical for almost every athletic function in active bodies, it is important to consistently supplement with a quality MSM nutritional supplement

MSM Benefits

Muscle function, building muscle, protection lean tissue, sports performance, training recovery.

MSM is a key source of sulphur, a compound which the body relies on for almost every function including the production of muscle tissue, healthy connective tissue, uptake of vitamins and minerals, healthy wellbeing, and mood molecule function. MSM is found in food but is difficult to retain since it is lost through food production, storage, and any loss of moisture. Taking MSM powder or capsules ensures a constant supply of optimal levels of this very important supplement.

Where is MSM found?

MSM is found in the fluid and tissue of all living organisms. It is present in a variety of foods including raw vegetables, eggs, milk and fish, but is lost through cooking and food processing. One of the richest natural supplies is pine trees and cabbage.

MSM originates in the oceans where microscopic plankton releases sulphur compounds into seawater, which is quickly converted to DMS, a volatile sulphur compound that escapes into the atmosphere. In this suspended, gaseous state, the DMS reacts with ozone and ultraviolet sunlight to create MSM. MSM then falls to the earth with the rain, where it is collected and concentrated in plants. Although MSM is abundant in nature, even the richest natural sources only provide MSM in the level of several parts per million. Commercial extraction of MSM from trees is not possible so a process is undertaken which parallels the natural oxidation that occurs in the marine atmosphere and produces MSM that is chemically identical to that found in nature.

How pure is MISMO MSM?

Every batch of our MSM is rigourously tested by an independent laboratory to ensure the highest quality, minimum 99.99% pure MSM. Testing processes include:

  • High resolution gas chromatography (“HRGC”) – establishes the volatile purity of organic sulfur (“volatile” impurities referring to those impurities that evaporate easily).
  • Melting point – helps to reveal non-volatile purities which cannot be determined by HRGC. This testing is important in conjunction with the HRGC testing to determine that the organic sulfur you are consuming is also pure from non-volatility impurities (“non-volatile” referring to a substance that does not readily evaporate into gas under existing conditions).
  • Karl Fischer Titration Method (“KFT”) – Pure organic sulfur should be extremely dry, with a water content of less than 0.1%.
  • Metals Testing - heavy metals; Arsenic, Cadmium, Mercury, and Lead, as well as the metal Aluminum. Additionally, as water is an integral part of the production process, guidelines regarding water supply are very important. Thus, it is worth noting that foreign MSM production facilities may be located in areas where local water supplies do not meet the more stringent U.S. Federal guidelines for organic and inorganic volatiles, heavy metals, and other contaminants, making heavy metal testing essential (We note that our product is made in the U.S).
  • Microbiological Testing - for aerobic bacteria, total coliforms, and yeast and molds. Again, this testing can be affected by water contamination. Poor water quality can lead to coliform and bacterial contamination. Too much moisture in the product can lead to yeast and mold contamination.

MISMO MSM usage

An average dose is between 2-8 grams daily. Most people take a teaspoon (approximately 4 grams) daily. If more relief is needed, increase the dose slowly. Can be taken in water or juice after breakfast, although there are no rules as to when you should take MSM.

A word of caution: some people find if they take MSM late in the day, after 4 or 5pm, they do not sleep as well, as it energises them. This is not a general occurrence but worth mentioning.

WARNINGS: If taking Warfarin or strong blood thinners, do not take MSM without your doctor's approval.

Not to be taken by children without a health professional's advice.

BLOOD TESTS: MSM can interfere with the accuracy of the test for liver enzymes by sometimes producing false positive results. It is recommended you cease taking MSM at least 4 days before these blood tests. You can resume after the test.
