Pronounced ho-ho-ba, (the J is silent) this well known oil features heavily in many skincare products and rightly so too. It possess numerous benefits for skin health including containing many important vitamins and minerals like; vitamin E and B complex, silicon, chromium, copper and zinc. It also has a very high percentage of iodine which gives this oil powerful healing qualities while also containing essential fatty acids.
Jojoba Oil, or its botanical name; Simmondsia Chinesis
What's more this oil is almost identical to the sebum secreted by human sebaceous glands. When sebum supplies decline as a result of age, pollutants, or environmental stresses, jojoba oil can be used to duplicate sebum oil. Which makes skincare that includes this ingredient highly effective given the skin readily accepts this oil as it's own.
It's also non-comedogenic, which means it doesn't clog pores and if you are trying to identify this ingredient on a skincare product you may see it listed as it's official botanical name Simmondsia Chinesis. It is also known and referred to as goat nut, deer nut, pignut, wild hazel, quinine nut, coffeeberry, and grey box bush. (But I've not seen any of these names featured on ingredient listing before).
Native Americans discovered and used this plant way back in the 18th century. Using a mortar and pestle they grinded the softened jojoba seeds into salves for skin and hair to condition.
