MSM For Arthritis
WHAT IS ARTHRITIS?
Arthritis is often referred to as a single disease or one common problem, but in fact it is a term used for over 100 medical conditions that affect our musculoskeletal system. Arthritis occurs specifically in our joints where two or more bones meet.
Problems associated with arthritis include pain, stiffness, inflammation and damage to joint cartilage (the tissue that covers the ends of bones, enabling them to move against each another) and surrounding structures. These symptoms affect our joints and can create joint weakness and deformities that interfere with daily tasks including driving, walking, cleaning and cooking.
WHAT CAUSES ARTHRITIS?
Determining the cause of Arthritis can be very difficult there are a number of factors that often contribute to the onset of Arthritis:Age –As we grow old our cartilage becomes more brittle reduced capacity to repair itself so we are more likely to develop arthritis as we age.
Weight –Joint damage is partly dependent on the amount the joint has to support, excess body weight can lead to arthritis, this is noticeable in the hips and knees that can wear quickly in overweight people.
Injury –Previous joint damage can cause irregularities in the normal smooth joint surface resulting in the formation of arthritis.
Work History –Some people in certain occupations seem to have a higher risk of developing arthritis. These are primarily high demand jobs such as assembly line workers and heavy construction.
Sports –Sports participation can lead to joint injury and then subsequent arthritis.
THREE MOST COMMON TYPES OF ARTHRITIS
Rheumatoid Arthritis – is a disease in which inflammation affects the joints and other organs of the body, the inflammation causes pain, heat and swelling to the affected areas. Hands, feet and knees are commonly affected and stiffness in the joints is common. Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes pain and inflammation of the joints and results in the restricted movement.
Osteoarthritis – is a breakdown of the cartilage that covers the end of the bones, this cartilage is there to help the joint move smoothly and cushions the ends of the bones. The ends of the bones then become unprotected and the joint loses it’s ability to move smoothly. The most common symptoms are pain and stiffness in the joints, which is normally worse after resting or not moving the joint for a while.
Gout – is the formation of small crystals in and around the joint which cause inflammation, pain and swelling. The crystals are made of uric acid which is one of the body’s normal waste products. The body would normally rid itself of excess uric acid through urine, but this elimination does not happen fast enough in people who have gout. Gout is hereditary and some lifestyle factors which may increase your risk of gout include drinking alcohol, dehydration, overweight, and certain foods.
HOW MSM RELIEVES ARTHRITIS
According to the foremost expert on MSM, Stanley W. Jacob, M.D., the substance, when taken as a supplement, exerts potent anti-inflammatory activity, it stops pain impulses and improves blood supply. MSM strengthens the collagen and the other connective tissue in the joints which assists in alleviating the pain associated with Arthritis. MSM also allows the body to heal faster by making the tissues even stronger.13000MISMO
