Why do I get pimples?
In the simplest of terms, the cause of pimples is blocked pores. There are a number of reasons your pores could be blocked:
Acne Treatment
Having too much oil on the skin could be due to hormones or simply if you have an oily or combination skin type.
Your skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells and producing new skin cells which push up to form the new outer layer. However if you do not cleanse and exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells, they could sit on the surface and block pores.
Heavy or long lasting makeup can potentially clog your pores. By sitting on the surface of the skin, it can act like film, blocking your pores. The best prevention is to either wear no foundation at all or wear lighter foundation or mineral makeup, but most importantly cleanse twice a day to ensure your skin is clean and clear at the end of the day and before applying makeup.
Bacteria and free radicals can also clog your pores to form a pimple. Bacteria naturally exists on your skin, but there are bad bacteria which can cause inflammation and form pimples. Free radicals come from the environment (i.e. air pollution, u.v rays).
The best and main prevention for a pimple breakout is keeping your skin clean through cleansing twice a day, exfoliating twice a week, applying a mask once a week and using a quality oil free moisturiser.
