Love HOT showers? Think again….

While long hot showers may feel luxurious they do take a toll on the skin, washing away precious natural oils on the skin’s surface (in particular the outer layer known as the Stratum Corneum), which in turn leads to dry, itchy and reddened skin.

But it’s not all bad news for showers, you can still enjoy a relaxing shower, it just needs to be a little bit shorter and not so hot. Believe me, your skin will love and thank you for it.

According to some research, there are quite a few benefits to having a cold shower.  Not only is it better for your skin, but it’s a great booster for your immune and circulatory system and can help to reduce stress levels too.

Some few simple tips on the best way to shower to protect your skin’s health:

  • Shorter, warm showers (lukewarm is best) are much more skin friendly. (The plus side to this is your water and electricity bills might not be as much!)
  • Never let the shower run directly on your face. This can contribute to broken capillaries. Splash the water on your face from your cupped hands or use a clean soft cloth. Microfibre cloths are ideal in this instance.
  • Pat the skin dry instead of rubbing it. And that rule of thumb can apply not only to your face but your body also.
